Description

The importance of self-compassion to mental wellness is a core element of acceptance-style therapies such as Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Mindfulness-based therapies in general. Self-compassion is seen as a major antidote to toxic shame, and is therefore one of the central benefits we hope will result from the “unmasking” process. Of course, this can be difficult to achieve in practice, especially without some support and guidance.

One obstacle can be that a late-discovery neurodivergent adult may find it hard to even be aware of their lack of compassion towards themselves – it is invisible to them because it is so long-established.
