Description

This is a pre-recorded webinar ‘Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People’ with Scott Neilson and Laura Hellfeld. This course is designed for professionals, identifying individuals, parents and carers. As Autistic educators with lived experience, Scott & Laura explore key principles and approaches to foster affirming, accessible spaces for Autistic people. Whether for community groups, schools, online groups or healthcare, this session offers valuable insights to help Autistic participants thrive.

As a public health nurse, Laura has years of experience in looking to support communities of people. Through that experience, Laura has developed and created a range of events and support activities. These events have been centered around education, mutual support or leisure like movies, music and art. Laura learned that there are key principles in creating inclusive spaces to ensure that communities of people, like neurodivergent and disabled, feel truly welcomed into those groups. These ideas are shared in their co-authored book ‘Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People’

Scott is an Autistic Trainer, Mentor & Consultant based in Lanarkshire, Scotland. They are dedicated to creating a world where Autistic people can thrive Autistically. In addition, Scott has over 6 years of experience supporting Autistic people & delivering training within various settings. They now do this independently under the trade name ‘Autistically Scott’. Furthermore, Scott collaborates with several organisations, such as AUsome Training, GROVE Neurodivergent Mentoring and Autistic Revolution. They are also the co-author of the books ‘Creating Safe Spaces for Autistic People’ and the children’s book ‘Gabby’s Glimmers’.
