Description
Our Konnect Social Program for Autistic Adults starts Saturday April 16th 2022 and runs for 8 weeks from 12 to 1.30pm GMT each week.
This course is run online over zoom and offers you an opportunity to connect with other Autistic adults and learn strategies for navigating your social world. This program, like all of our programs is Autistic-led and embraces and celebrates the Autistic way of being and our highly effective way of communicating. It does not impose any non-autistic social goals but offers you support where you need it and each session is tailored to meet the needs of each person within the group.
Our program will also provide you with resources which you may find helpful to share with friends, families, employers and so on. Our social program focuses on building relationships and connecting Autistic people, friends, families and workplaces by educating everyone on Autistic communication because Autistic people cannot do all the work!
Course Content:
The course content will be designed after our first week so that we can meet your unique needs but below is an outline of topics we cover throughout the social program.
- Understanding Autistic Communication
- Building a relationship with ourselves
- Building relationships with others
- Signs that our friendships or relationships are good for us (or not)
- Self-advocating
- Facing challenges
- Finding Support
- Demand Avoidance
- Understanding non-autistic communication
- Job interviews
- Building Confidence
- Boundaries
- Understanding power play and the social hierarchy
- Dealing with things that effect our communication
This course is designed by Evaleen Whelton, founder of AUsome Training and Konfident Kidz. Since she made the wonderful discovery of her Autisticity in 2014 Evaleen’s focus has been on breaking down barriers for Autistic people young and old through education. This course will be facilitated by Orla Barry who has been working with Evaleen for many years. Orla has designed and delivered our Konnect program to children and young adults from all oround the world and is looking forward to facilitating these sessions with her neurokin in 2022.
