Course length
This course has 5 x 5 hours self-paced learning followed by a live 2 hour session. So you need to allocate 5-6 hours in between each live session. A total of approx 35 hours Convert to your time zone.Course dates
You will need to be available for live sessions (dates and times below) as well as allocating your own time in between sessions to complete the self-paced course content.
You can mix and match if you like and attend some of Evaleen’s and some of Yael’s sessions. Anyone around the globe is welcome to attend any of the courses if the time suits you. One word that often arises in conjunction with 'autism' - particularly when discussing Autistic children - is 'behaviour.' We hear terms like 'autism behaviours' or 'challenging behaviour' or 'repetitive behaviour' or 'dysfunctional behaviours.' It's no secret that AUsome Training has issues with the B-Word. It is almost always used to define actions in negative ways, but more than that, it is seeded through books, videos, discussions, training and more as if there's nothing more to 'those people' beyond their 'behaviours.'Behaviour - or actions, responses, reactions - does not emerge magically from the ether but is the product of experiences and an expression of personality, of needs, and a direct response to those experiences. This is how we have understood 'behaviour' for decades now, yet Autistics continue to be treated as if we are just mechanisms without feelings or intellect.This course is ideal for relatives, educators and those in caring professions living and working with younger Autistic people. This course explains the many functions behind stimming and what the Autistic person is communicating through their stims. Stimming is Autistic language. We communicate through movement and sounds first. Words are our second language.Â

Why are we even talking about autism and trauma? What we are beginning to see quite clearly from most current research is that levels of trauma are higher in the Autistic population than in the general public. "Autism training" and "autism courses" which are designed without Autistic input can mean that there is actually very little real and meaningful understanding of autism. Unfortunately trauma responses in Autistic children and adults are not always recognised. They are often misinterpreted as "Autistic Behaviours" but there is no Autistic behaviour only human behaviour. When trauma responses are ignored then this can lead to even more trauma for the Autistic person. When we view Autistic behaviour as human behaviour we begin to see a very different picture to that painted by misinformed professionals who are basing their ideas on outdated ideology.
